*I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain, not because I did not love you,
but because I loved you too much to force you to stay.*

Flatcoat Retriever
My Flatcoat Retriever Created By Recycle Bin Graphics

Angus was our fun loving boy!! He was always ready to play and his favorite game was fetch, fetch, fetch. Angus had a tough beginning in life for someone who loved it so much...he was a rescued Flat-coated Retriever. At the young age of only 10 weeks he was bound and gagged with duct tape, shoved into a black plastic garbage bag, and dumped into a grocery store dumpster to die....but he didn't! He was rescued by my daughter's former boyfriend, who just happened to see Angus being dumped, and was brought to me to love and charish. Angus was a bit destructive when he didn't get enough exercise, this could have been the reason he was dumped, and although his destructive nature wained with age his boundless energy and love of life was with him until the end.

THINGS I LEARNED FROM MY DOG...
~~ author unknown ~~

  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
  • Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
  • Take naps and stretch before rising.
  • Run, romp and play daily.
  • Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
  • Be loyal.
  • Never pretend to be something you're not.
  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  • Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
  • When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  • No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and make friends.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

OLD DOG IN A LOCKET
~~ Heidi Stamm ~~

Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I will always love you
As I did right from the start.

You were right beside me
Through the darkest of my days
It was your kind and gentle nature
That made me want to stay.

Now I hold you in my arms
Your breath still warm against my hand
Our hearts still beat together
And I wonder if you understand.

Through the hours that I held you
Before the light did leave your soul
I knew a way to keep you
Forever in my hold.

I snipped the hair from around your eyes
So I would always see
The beauty that surrounds me
Even in times of need.

I snipped the hair from around your ears
So I would always hear
Music in the distance
To quiet any fears.

I snipped the hair from across your back
To bring me strength in time of need
And the power of your essence
Would always be with me.

I snipped the hair from around your heart
That beat in time with mine
So I would know that love would find me
At some distant time.

And so, your life slipped out of mine
On a quiet Spring like day
But I knew that a part of you
Was always here to stay.

Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I will always love you
Even though we had to part.
